Tips Against Alistar as a Support Tips Provided by MOBAFire Guide Authors
Magnos says “Its W + Q combo is devastating and can stun you further with E but it won't be needed as you are already dead.”
MorBidMike says “His Q cancels your W meaning you cant ingage but your E can stop his Q in his W Q combo so its a stale mate.
I consider it ali favored to because his combo is easier to use and far more forgiving in an even lane.”
PR0M3T3O says “This match is EZ
As Alistar gets more levels its harder the lane, being more tanky and having annoying CC.
It only becomes a hard match when its a Hardtry alistar that constantly uses Flash Ignite and combo just to poke you, ugh.”
spirit legacy says “Very easy Matchup. You can always hover your mouse over him and start buffering your E. When he wants to W-Q you, you just E>Q him and he'll be stunned and only knocks you away with his W. Then you have enough time to press W and proc your passive. Avoid getting Q>Flash into his Tower when playing aggressive. ”
Challenger Project says “Alistar has an easier time to engage on to your ADC since he is not relaiet on skillshots as Nautilus. His lvl 1 is extremely weak, try to abuse that. Afterwards look for hooks only onto enemy ADC, but don’t expect to kill him, Alistar makes that very hard with his AoE knockup.”
Groovywelsh says “Alistar top can't kill you but you can't kill him either so in lane just farm. The problem is late game in team fights becuse if you E then alistar can Q you and cancel your E. And then push you back with W and you can't do nothing”
Cordiall says “Alistar isn't a threat so much as he's a nuisance. Neither one of you will likely be able to kill the other one, so it's likely just going to be a boring lane where you both just hope to beat the enemy. Alistar is more prone to roaming than Braum, though, so make sure to capitalize on the times when Alistar leaves lane.”
Brizz Valentine1 says “
He is a support with a lot of initiation, if he catches you with his combo at least he will burn your flash.Very tanky and passively heals in lane and in group fights. Try to wear down with empowered Q, ward the center bush which is where they normally channel hexflash most of the time. Just take your distance.”
Eu como Miilena says “Tome cuidado com o combo dele mas se ele acertar use Q+R e W nele e de escudo para a pessoa que levou o combo. De muito poke nele para ele não poder dar o combo dele. use seu E para fugir do stun dele ”
Ionia King says “He can capitalize on your engage by knocking you deep into his backline and stopping you from escaping. Let him engage first, then counter his engage by jumping on his team after he has everything on cooldown.”
DtNikk says “Same as Blitzcrank and Thresh. Aery highly recomended, try poking as much as you can level 1 but be carefull after the 1st wave, as you'll die if you get caught. Whenever he engages someone pop your silence under him , so he cant do his whole combo.”
TheBlueImperial says “A bit of a skill matchup, you can cancel mess up his combo by Eing at the right time, it will cancel his Q buffer and he will just end up knocking your ADC back to safety. He can cancel your engagement very easily, so play for counter-engagement/Peel.”
beefyylol says “You can bully him extremely hard level 1 before he has the ability to combo you. You also hard outscale and as long as you don't get caught by his combo in lane and die, this is one of Bard's best matchups.”
xDracolich says “Alistar is a tank, so he's okay to deal with, you can just steal his armor and magic resist. But his disengages pushes you so far away that unless your ADC knows how to survive on their own, you're useless for the rest of the fight.”
PumpkinMatters says “Alistar cancels your engage, but apart from that he's not that much of a danger. It's a boring laning phase, with headbutts here, and horsefalls there, but it's similiar to the Leone matchup: whoever engages first, loses. Wait for him to throw himself on your ADC and jump on his, because there's not much he can do”
Alistar is a very complex champion, it can be boring to play against him, the most important tip is to let him spend the Q in choke attempts and Use your E to escape his W, try to stay close to walls, it helps on the move.”
Wezaurd Poro says “Extreme Threats are going to consist of mostly Tank Supports, Alistar in particular is easily capable of shutting you down as he can push you away before your E even has a chance of stunning, or even worse he can knock you up then throw you under tower, almost guaranteeing your death. Focus the ADC, Focus the ADC, FOCUS THE ADC. See Leona for more laning tips as they mostly apply here as well.”
The Wands says “It has healing ability, and can counter engage throwing you away, or even commanding back, with a QSS built in the kit, it is not recommended to use it as a bridge to reach the enemy adcarry, as well as the Thresh”
iSkyi says “On paper most people expect Morg to counter Alistar. This is mostly team reliant. Any good Alistar will just leave the lane and you just can't compete with his roams. Morg CC is too unreliable.”
pastelzia says “Alistar is an engage crowd control support who counters Yuumi with many of his abilities. Alistar's Pulverize stuns and knocks up enemies neaby, canceling You and Me! and refreshing it's cooldown. Alistar's Headbutt allows Alistar to dash to a target enemy's location, knocking them back 700 units while also stunning them for 0.75 seconds, canceling You and Me! and refreshing it's cooldown. Alistar's Trample allows him to become Ghosted while trampling the ground around him every 0.5 seconds for 5 seconds, gaining a Trample stack each time this abilities damages enemy champions. At max Trample stacks, Alistar's next basic attack on-hit against a champion within 6 seconds stuns the enemy for 1 second, canceling You and Me! and refreshing it's cooldown.
In general, all of Alistar's abilities except his ultimate counter Yuumi's You and Me! making him a hard counter for Yuumi.”
SirCaptFair says “you can actually w or e away from his w if timed perfectly. You can bring almost the same roam values as him you can peel him off pretty easily. just make sure before you engage on his carries he's not in front of them or behind them because he might just w you away.”
(Thresh can nullify your initiation if played correctly. But Alistar can do the same thing with Thresh!)”
Ms_Clair says “Alistar, like leona, can have his engaged cancelled by janna q making him ineffective in combat. However you have to rely on reading the enemy movement and predicting the e rather than the indication and reaction you can use for leona's e making him placed higher. ”
Gobomo says “Very skill based matchup. Don't get caught out and you'll have a lot of lane pressure, but if he gets a kill on you for his ADC the lane can snowball really quickly. The reason he's on minor instead of even is because you have a very strong level 1 compared to his incredibly weak level 1. Bully him off of minions so that your ADC hits 2 sooner and hopefully get out a flash or even a kill using the advantage. ”
Maximany says “will punish you if you hook him and if you hook adc he will charge in plus he can outroam you and even pick off enemies like you by flash then W and is a way better tank even if you go with the tank build”
neuroplasticity says “Not a champion at level 1 you should poke as hard as you can to get lane control. Be respectful from lvl 2 onward and bubble the ADC if Alistar engages onto your own. Your passive paired with the slow from your E should help kite the big cow. Later on your ult also works well to disengage.
Be mindful of his flash-headbutt combo when sieging and check whether the Alistar runs hexflash.
Alistars love to roam and hexflash over walls so make sure you ward the river/ use your pings frequently.
Run Guardian and consider Shurelya's if your team doesn't have much mobility.
Dotje says “If the person playing Alistar knows what he is doing you have a big problem. You must be careful level 2+ especially when his jungler is around. He will try to flash in to knock you up and knock you back into his team. If he engages on your adc, don’t stand too close to him and make sure to use Q on their adc. Harass him whenever his abilities are on cooldown and be very careful of bushes when he has hexflash.”
eiensiei says “If it's possible, ask your jungler to start top side so you don't have to leash as Alistar isn't a champion at level 1 and it's very helpful to get some poke down. After level 2 play in front of your ADC so his only option is to go for you and be prepared to Q his engage. Be mindful of his Phase Rush + Hexflash combo over walls or from bushes, not just in laning phase but also later on for teamfight flanks.”
Mr buckets says “Alistar is a free matchup, you only have to respect his lvl 3-6, u win lvl 1-2 and from lvl 6-18 you offer better scaling, better engage and overall more sustain in both healing and dmg.”
Doglightning says “Take guardian. You must start to pressure him lvl 1 with empowered W autos to make sure he cannot go in lvl 2. Once you have a lead keep the pressure on him and find roots on the adc while you continue to poke the ali down so he cannot engage. Only thing you have to be careful is playing around the enemy jungler. Ali can very easily setup ganks for his jungle and is his win condition for lane.”
Aerenax says “Alistar shouldn’t be the hardest of matchups as he is eager to engage on you. Play around his W Q combo cooldown and you should be fine. Don’t dive too deep behind him as he can bump you into the tower.”
eiensiei says “If it's possible, ask your jungler to start top side so you don't have to leash as Alistar isn't a champion at level 1 and it's very helpful to get some poke down. After level 2 position in such a way that he never has an opportunity to catch both you and your ADC. Be mindful of his Phase Rush + Hexflash combo over walls or from bushes, not just in laning phase but also later on for teamfight flanks. Relic match-up.”
LimTheDestructor says “Don't let Alistar engage your adc (interrupt his engage attempt with Q if possible). If you engage, engage on enemy adc with E or on Alistar with Q or on 20% hp Alistar with E. Don't be too optimistic while finding moments to all in. Mostly the one who engages, loses the trade if doesn't oneshot enemy adc. Don't go close to enemy turret - beware of Alistar's Flash + Q + chain CC. When Alistar gets (or recalled and can buy) Mobiboots, ping your midlaner to be ready for his roam. When you see Alistar comboing you, press W before getting CCed. Remember that Alistar without both R and Aftershock is squishy, can interrupt your E engage but can't interrupt your Q or R engage.”
Rasta Da Masta says “Even with Flash, you out range his initiation threat zone. Since you will be pushing him under tower, it will be difficult for him to tower dive you. With quick reflexes, you can cancel his WQ combo. And you don't have to kill this guy, just poke him with autos and you can stack money easily.”
LegendaryOstrich says “It's possible to cancel his W with your Flay. Try to lantern your ADC before/after Alistar gets his WQ off so he's unable to proc his stun. DO NOT STAND ON YOUR ADC OR YOU WILL BOTH GET COMBO'D.”
Korippo says “All three of his abilities (excluding his ultimate) have a form of CC, and he can get out of your ultimate by using his. However, he is a very visual champion regardless and you can usually tell when he's going to engage easily enough. Try to move around a lot when going for your passive so that you can avoid your W lockout.”
Flackojodye says “Dont stick next to your adc so he doesnt hit his combo on both of you.
IF he engages on your adc, throw all your abilities at their adc, most of the time they'll be too distracted hitting your carry to dodge your abilities.”
Distinger says “Ok Alistar can be very tough, but if you follow the same steps as for Nautilus and just don't engage on him, you'll be fine most of the times.
NEVER hook him or he will full combo the ADC and you'll get flamed to death.
Best to take Aftershock.”
Arcurath says “You can abuse him level 1 with range advantage but after level 2 you have to play safe and poke. Be careful if he flash W you into tower tho.
If he has an agro adc the lane can be very tough if they manage to flash on you.
After 6 you are fine, even if they try dive you have ult to ruin their attempt.”
Hanjaro says “You shouldn't ever be in range of his combo, and you can negate his all in with your stun. Be careful if you get caught out, he can knock you into the enemies and you're sure to get bursted down.”
0Banda says “Alistar is a quite difficult matchup as he will make everthing difficult for you to kill the enemy ADC, when you get to Alistar melee range with your W he can use his Q on you, so dont do this.
In lane against Alistar you should ignore him completely, try hitting your combo against the enemy ADC and not him, your level 6 is quite better than his, so make use of this and all-in his ADC (along with your ADC) when you get this powerspike
Remember Alistar is a quite immobile so make use of your roaming potential
Against Alistar you should build as usual”
Hanjaro says “Alistar can all in you at level 2 - 3 with or without flash, he has a lot of cc built into his kit, and he's not easy to burst down. Poke him down so he can't engage, and stay at maximum range so he can't engage.”
Luiscencias says “Same as Leona, you better bring the brass knuckles into lane at level 1. Smack this cow as much as you can until he levels up once and then hang back and respeccccc. Unlike Leona though, his ult isn't even more cc so from level 6 onwards you can be more proactive. CC machine champions can always be useful even if they are behind so don't bunch up for him in teamfights and focus anyone but him because he does no damage later on.”
Hanjaro says “Yuumi is extremely weak when it comes to all-in engage, she hasn't got much peel and if she detaches, she will be bursted down - it's very hard for her to keep her ADC alive when she gets engaged on.
Alistars knockup can pull her out mid dash, incurring a cooldown on her W and resulting in her death.”
Fear The Jester says “Really tricky to engage on, since you have to get behind your enemy to get your boxes down and get your free crit, which gives him opportunity to knock you into tower, if theyre smart they will freeze against you.”
SorakaMainsDiscord says “ Reliable CC that can easily catchs you off guard, you cannot cancel his E Q combo with your Silence, you will have to be very careful especially around mid-game to not get caught while warding. He also is pretty much free to roam since you have a hard time putting pressure on the enemy adc, even in a 2v1”
Jowoey says “You can peel him off your carry but his engage on you can be deadly. Try not to waste your tornado against him in lane unless he already used his combo. He can set up a lot of crazy plays during his roams so make sure to pay attention to the map and try to match his roams.”
Melyn says “He is tanky, has some sustain, and very reliable engage. Watch out for his flash and try to poke and zone extremely hard when he's level 1. Do not focus him unless he is very low. Additionally, be ready to spam ping if he roams a lot and try to ward for mid.”
Hanjaro says “Be careful of him using flash to knock you under a turret, but you can still escape with your stand behind me. Neither of you generally have the power to kill each other, and you both have build up stuns. Play normal.”
PicklePantsLOL says “The brushes are extremely dangerous in this lane and need to be kept warded at all times. Avoid walking too close to the brushes even if you see Alistar in them as he can Flash>Q>W you into his team.
Alistar will definitely try to all-in you at level two once his W>Q combo. There are two ways to avoid this, either poke him enough at level one so that he can't all-in you, or concede the push and keep the wave near your tower at all times.
Once he gets his Ultimate R, you can't allow him to build up a huge wave and crash it into your tower as the wave, paired with his Ultimate R will allow him to set-up brutal tower dives with his Jungler.
In team-fights, Alistar will look to flank you from the sides and his goal will be to lockdown the highest priority target in your team (mostly your ADC). Try not to fight in the jungle as it will allow him to land a multi-person Q. You can thwart his team-fight all-in by poking the remaining four members of his team and forcing them to play defensively.”
Biotic says “His Level 3 with a Strong adc is very dangerous. After your first base with a Kindlegem dont be affraid to get engaged by him you win 2v2 most likely if you have the stronger or even Adc. Level 6+ You hard outscaled. You can follow roams.”
Lugos says “He is a melee tank with no burst and pretty straightforward combo. If you keep your distance to avoid his WQ, or flash WQ combo you are good. Also keep in mind that he can tank a turret no problem, if he does, maybe their jungle is coming too and it is a dive. Additionally, he can do a Q-flash trick, if you do not expect it you might get caught. It is also the most dangerous trap to fall for. If he has hexflash he will try this from bushes and at other sides of the walls often. Watch out for these cheap tricks and you are good on lane. As for the rest of the game he has a bonus against you, that he is a tanky with cc's. You have to be more useful to your team than he is as a tank.”
KasgoesREEEEE says “ward brushes and poke him down and he struggles to engage. he will roam a lot mid which you can't match so ward the river too if possible to help your team scout him. when he's out of lane bully the adc, punish him hard for leaving, that's how you win”
Skyzinho1775 says “U can win this but u just cant fight with him focusing u, i got a tip for u, play supportive for ur adc and do not engage the enemy adc with alistar near try to engage in teamfights but not in laning phase.”
Guoblide says “Alistar is a fairly easy matchup for Braum due to Alistar's aggression being fairly linear and easy to shut down. However, Alistar can make some unexpected outplays that less skilled Braum players won't know how to play around. Alistar is a tanky Vanguard support than can be played either as an engage tank or a Warden depending on the champions on either team. Against Braum however Alistar will usually be played as an engager focused on catching out Braum or his ADC. Alistar spikes a bit at Level 2 with him gaining access to his Headbutt + Pulverize combo. This combo isn't especially strong into Braum though if Braum stands near his ADC as a well placed Unbreakable can block most of the follow up damage from the enemy ADC. Alistar spikes again at Level 3 as the acces to Trample provides him more lockdown CC. His final spike is at Level 6 with Unbreakable Will although this spike isn't as scary as Braum lanes are usually looking to outscale over get kills on the enemy support. When Braum gets to lane he should be able to get some poke off with Winter's Bite and maybe deny the enemy ADC CS. Alistar is not a threat at Level 1 due to Pulverize not providing a lot of CC and requiring Alistar to get near an enemy to land. Back off at Level 2 and try to stick near you ADC to peel for them due to Alistar being able to engage from a long distance with his Headbutt + Pulverize combo. This combo gets even scarier at Level 3 with Trample being able to extend the CC chain on your ADC. Play safe up until Level 6 where Glacial Fissure gives Braum better peel and pick potential if the enemy ADC mispostions. Braum outscales Alistar and provides way better peel and engage to an extent in late game team fights so getting through Levels 1-5 without misplaying should make the game way easier after the laning phase is over.”
Spection says “As long as you don't get within range of his combo, you're totally fine. When he headbutts your ADC, drop a silence field under your carry to prevent him from pressing Q or E, making it a lot harder for him to apply any follow up cc, insttead knocking your AD away to safety. Be wary for flash engage, requires very quick response and can be deadly. Respect him, take E level 3.”
DanNS12 says “You can harass him lvl 1 because he has no way of fighting back until lvl 2-3. When pressuring him under the turret be careful not to get too close because he can flash Q + W you into his turret. ”
dragonmasterc says “Alistar is well known for being exploitable early, and you can chunk him down pretty well with early flags. His engage is a lot less worrisome so long as you poke in the right windows. Be mindful of any flash plays, Alistar's will often burn their flashes like no tomorrow, just to access Hexflash and do it some more.”
Tatewari says “You gotta be fast for this one: E Q him when he tries to combo you. He wont be able to knock you up while stunned.
Be careful of his F Q E combo, keep some distance, especially when you're near his tower.”
baginthecup says “Hard to deal with. You have control of the wave so try to let it stand in the middle or pushing towards you. Don't get combo-d ever. If your ADC gets combo-d, drop your shit on their ADC. ”
terrybogar1 says “Alistar is extremely good at keeping you from doing what you want to do to his adc. You can W 1 out of 3 of his cc. Recommend you to use it on the headbutt so you can stay near him and CC him while your adc comes over and hits em.”
duusuhh says “Still have yet to experience a terrible time against Ali. Can definitely see how things can go downhill fast as anyone who gets on top of Karma is a major problem. Most of the time trying to predict his movement in lane can save your life. You will get outroamed unless you cave and buy mobis and try to counter his movement.”
Esoterica says “Alistar cannot easily set up a kill on you and will be forced to use his charge to get you off his ADC. However, this means kills will be more complicated for you.
Play aggressive and force his hand so he cannot save his abilities to flash-Q your ADC for an easy level 2 death.”
DamselOfDistress says “Alistar will take a lot of poke from you, but once he engages, you can´t get him off very easily. As long as you position correctly, you can peel him off your ADC with a Q. You want him to engage your ADC, not you.”
Mr Jamba Juice says “Type: Support - Alistar has stronger engage, stronger CC, and stronger Melee strength than you in the early levels. However, he is still a Melee Champion. A good Alistar will hold his engage tools until after you expend your E, while you can punish by holding your E as well. Play Parallel to your ADC to avoid Alistar's AOE Knockup. Your Sustain tools are stronger than Alistar's Pre-6, so make sure to always have enough Mana to get out of a bad situation. If necessary, buy an early Tear. If you feel comfortable with Taric or are against a Melee Laner, you can take Aftershock to match Alistar's Trading power. Never build Moonstone into this Champion. Tenacity doesn't do much against him, so take Inspiration instead for your Secondaries.”
Daraysen says “Alistar can make your hooks almost useless, it comes down to the small things, he can push you away but you can interrupt his dash, just try to avoid 2 on 2 fights, if he seems to be to strong.”
Dotje says “Even tho I find alistar rather easy to deal with by poking him down. There are some good Alistar players out there. Make sure not to stand too close to your ad to prevent a double knockup.”
KeleiX13 says “Treat him like Leona. If you go as aggressive as you possibly can level 1 he can't engage even if he gets level 2 first. After level 1, respect his ability to all-in you and keep good brush control. Don't bother to auto him for poke and auto his ADC instead if they step up too far since you can easily be engaged on if you go within auto range. Your Q range is bigger than his W range so just keep poking from afar with your Q. Once he goes in and messes something up, punish him hard for it. Do not stack too close to your ADC as he can potentially flash Q both of you.”
GamingFrog says “Alistar is a skill based match up for Braum. The better player will win it. Watch out for his Flash>Q>W combo because it will knock your ADC out of W distance. Also if Alistar engages on your ADC, wait for him to use his entire W>Q combo because if you try dashing to your ADC instantly, you may be knocked up mid dash and end up behind your ADC, which is really bad.”
Tauricus2017 says “Alistar's W + Q combo is very dangerous but has very low range as well, watch out for one of those spells to go on cooldown so you can go a bit closer to his ADC for trades. If he engages your ADC and If you cast Equinox quick enough, you can stop the knockup from this lethal combo, potentially saving your buddy'es life.”
Rainuu says “Alistar can zone you out from following with a burst after an ulti against any champions. He's also tanky, making it quite difficult to one-shot. All in all, completely nullfies Lillia in lane.”
Starchase says “Extreme threat if they have an aggresive ADC.
Lvl 1 try to poke him as much as you can, except if they have an aggresive ADC, he can flash Q you and kill you.
Afterwards never detach your ADC unless he already used his combo on your ADC and only do this to proc your shield passive.
Ping your teammates if alistar is missing on the lane.
Care about dives at lvl 6, if your ADC is at half health, ping him to back, or let him die.
You outscale him really hard.”
mellorpyke says “Use Q for short trades/poke and just dont use E aggressively. Play far from your ADC so you dont both get knocked up with W-Q. if Ali engages on you just E backwards + Q aftewards. If he engages on your carry, counter-engage on the enemy adc, you should be able to win the 2v2 like that because you do more damage. At level 6 he usually wont ult untill he's low on health but unlucky for him, we got our own ultimate.”
aWhiner says “Rub the steak all over with a good lug of olive oil and a good pinch of sea salt and black pepper
Add the steak to a hot pan, then cook for 6 minutes for medium-rare, or to your liking, turning every minute
For more flavour, try one or a combination of the following…
Halve a garlic clove and rub it over the steak every time you turn it
Rub the steak with a knob of butter – the sweetness from the butter will make it taste divine!
Or create a herb brush by tying woody herbs like thyme or rosemary to the handle of a wooden spoon and brush it over the steak every minute or so
Once cooked to your liking, rest the steak on a plate that can collect all the lovely juices for 2 minutes
Carve with a nice sharp carving knife, then serve with the resting juices drizzled on top
Everyone has their favourite ways to eat steak – with good old chips and a crisp, green salad, with pepper or horseradish sauces, or even a simple fresh salsa verde to cut right through it. Whatever you choose, we’re sure your lucky guest will love you for it.
Takitsu says “This is a skill matchup, but you are playing with a handicap since Alistar is a better tank than Thresh. If you can RELIABLY flay Alistar's engage, this matchup becomes easy. If you can't flay it, this matchup becomes extremely difficult with Alistar making you his bitch.”
Xeptron says “Playing against the COW is tricky. Cannot let him fully combo your AD, cancel his combo with Q if possible. If you ever looking to engage against an Alistar, have to find a good spot to do it. Remember that Alistar has a really great engage with flash and W-Q combo, can throw you under the turret and with the huge amount of CC, stun you there for hours. Activate your W whenever Alistar engages to soak his damage and lock enemy AD down. Additionally, if Alistar doesn't run aftershock or whenever his ult is down, the cow is squishy - easily killable. Use that window to kill and snowball from there.”
losolkos says “Good alistar will make your live harder try to not stay behind him and try to use your W when you see he jump this can minimaliz dmg . When he ult dont atack him focus adc you can ult on alistar to stop him when its nesesery.”
unhben says “You can try and poke out Alistar but eventually he will just toughen up and engage on you no matter what. Make sure he suffers in lane enough before he grows a pair and dives. DO NOT SHOOT YOUR ULT AT HIM POST 6 HE WILL JUST CLEANSE IT WITH HIS ULT.”
NewTeff says “a good alistar will punish your aggressive playstyle making it impossible to get ahead early by killing the enemy adc, check how comfortable the player feels on alistar, ask the jungler for a couple of ganks and it'll be good”
Bear Gummies says “I hate this champion so much. Go Guardian because you poke is going to tickle him regardless of what keystone you go, and when he engages, go straight for the ADC and try to wipe them before they can wipe you. It is possible to interrupt his knock back with your howling gale, but it's one of the harder ones to time. Another thing is that this matchup is sadly dependent on ping. For someone with not-so-ideal ping like mine, it's really hard to land that Q on him, but maybe in Korea your luck might be different :(.”
Jannito02 says “Alistar is also one of the hardest supports to lane against with Yuumi. He can easily engage you or your carry if you're not cautious. He has a lot of damage and CC, and can dive you with his ultimate. He can iniciate a lot of teamfights and can perma CC you and get you killed.”
xDopii says “Alistar is very tanky and can also push you away from his teammates or start his own engage when you go in. It is also very easy for him to push you into the tower if you walk up too far.”
xDopii says “Alistar is very tanky and can use the gap close as an engage for himself. If you hook him he will usually just attack your teammate or push you to his team since you will be right next to him which is perfect for his Q.”
Meepy says “His engage is pretty straight forward, but very dangerous. If you or your adc get hit by it, there is a big chance you die or have to burn summoners. Apart from his w-q combo, there is not alot he can do in Lane. You HAVE to abuse his weak level 1, to get him in a position where he is too low to engage/the wave is in a bad spot to engage for him.
Alistar will usually get Mobi Boots as soon as he can and roam around the Map. Try to not get outroamed. Alistar is weak if he is playing from behind, but impossible for Bard to Match if you are just reacting to his roams and always to late. Try to be active around the Map, or abuse his Roams to dive the enemy adc with your jungler.”
Zulp says “There has big a been emergence of Phase Rush Alistars who go Mobility Boots first, resulting in a very hard match-up. Play defensive, try to bubble the enemy ADC and don't stand too close to yours.”
Jexeff says “The biggest thing to remember is that Alistar is very vulnerable when his combo is down. In order to win this matchup, you must be able to use this to your advantage. In addition, you can also stop Alistar’s headbutt by using your flay. It can be very difficult and almost requires a prediction. This is definitely another matchup that you can abuse level 1 due to your range.”
razzyhealer says “Hard-engage, heavy point-and-click CC champ. Is usually a lane bully and will roam. He also has healing built into his kit, which makes your poke less valuable. Try to reserve mana for E casts. Wait for him to CC your ADC before going for Bop n' Block.”
Wounds2 says “Alistar is weak in laning phase, so Rakan is can deal with him easily. Make sure to get as much harass on him as possible with your Q and avoid W'ing onto him unless its a free kill. If you let him get on top of you, you can get bursted pretty quick.”
icebombhunter says “Really hard threat. Your lvl 1 is stronger, so make sure to do a good trade at lvl 1. After lvl 3 he will destroy your adc so try to grab him away and then disengage. After 6 you can't do much, wait for your jungler to come. Play safe and roam.”
fishbully says “Alistar is a champion with not much mobility (except one gap closer) because of this, Janna can usually escape and get poke damage. The matchup is even because Janna will not win late laning phase.”
itizhelia says “Classic pick. Alistar pretty much does everything that Rakan does, but much better and easier.
The only downside is that Alistar isn't a mobile champion like Rakan.
I'd say this is a skill-based match-up and usually, you should respect a lot Alistar players because if they play this match-up right then they can make it pretty painful for you.
But bear in mind that if he plays wrongly with his stuns then you can punish him really hard.”
FiddlesticksChan says “He can engage and lock you down or peel hard for his ADC making it very hard for you to have any impact. Unlike Leona, you cant dodge his engage; but if you have the reaction time, you can E when he jumps on you to stun him so he cant follow up.”
Zulp says “Lately there has been a trend of Phase Rush Alistairs. This combined with Mobility Boots and Hexflash makes him difficult to bomb and your Time Warp is around the same as his Pulverize+Headbutt Combo. Watchout! ”
LeAnxieuxPrince says “Okay so, for Alistar and hard engage supports like Leona, Thresh and Rell, how well the lane will go depends on how well you can keep the pressure on them since level 1. Aim to poke them from a far so you dont get CCed. For me honestly, this lanes depend heavily on your ADC. If he can respect their all ins and keep distance while you poke them, there should be no problems.”
Navn says “Make sure you don't stand near your lane partner for a 2 man knock-up, and be ready to Poly him as he is head-butting you. If you time it properly, he just knocks you away to safety while poly-ed.”
Xeptron says “I would consider thresh counter to alistar but a good alistar can be very annoying agianst a thresh. One way to feel more safe against alistar is to learn when to flay Alistar's engage combo. Once you've learnt it, laning phase against the COW is a lot easier.
If you let Alistar combo go through, it can be a very unpleasant experience.”
CanadaJay says “Tanky and has hard engages, but you're able to deal with him due to the CC on your ult and E. Usually he'll build armour, so your AP damage will go through most of it. Just watch out for his knockback and knockup; these can lead to serious followups from his ADC.”
whybother34 says “God this cow is one of the most annoying supports to play against as leona. His headbutt sends you back to where you started his q can stop your dash and once you get in his e makes you want to go away and even if you ult him he just ults and gets tankier than you.”
JamaicanMeAngry says “He Can Cancel Ur W With His Q.
However, In this lane whoever goes in first loses. So its a do nothing lane. Except Alistar benefits from this as his passive heals during the lane so he can out sustain you. ”
Sunedayz says “Poke him down as much as possible level 1. Once level 2/3 happen, be mindful of his engage. Every time you step up to W, have your finger on Q ready to stop him from going on you. The very important thing is to watch out for his flash, respect him and flash away. He'll be easier to deal with the later the game goes.”
DracoMeteor_ says “Alistar is a strong beefy Champion and is very hard to kill if played right. He has a fair amount of CC and if you, yourself, get jumped on by him you are basically dead, especially if someone else is nearby.”
CaptianMike says “Do NOT get in range of his W+Q combo post 6. Stay away from brush if he has hexflash! It might be worthwhile to ward the brush in lane. You can poke him down with auto attacks and bombs early in the laning phase. After laning phase, stay out of his range completely because you cannot ult yourself while he CC's you.”
Rotendont says “Alistar has a large health pool and alot of CC, so be sure to keep him away from your ADC, and try to stun him if he goes in. Make sure to use W before he goes for an all in, in case he targets you first.”
LTD MAMON says “You can't all-in and win this guy if he has all ability in his hand. However, you can all-in his ADC with a good setup so try to not waste a box to push the lane (if he can freeze your lane it'll be very hard to protect your ADC)”
Mhixy says “He can lock you down in a position, he's not easily killable, you can't really outlive him, you can't really engage on him since he will just separate you from your team in teamfights, and you can't engage in-lane because he can w you into tower. The peel he provides mid-game is border-line broken, if he focuses you the fight will 100% be without you at all. ”
Dannala says “LANE: Alistar top is rare but it happens, even rarer to go full AP. He got the AoE to kill your spiderlings and sustain to handle your poke. Safely poking him while his spells are on cooldown is your best bet.”
Hceercs says “This is also a skill matchup, you can flay him out of his headbutt to cancel his engage and kill him right after, but if he baits out your flay you will lose the all-in. In that case, try to at least land your hook so you proc Aftershock and don't instantly die.”
RedNBlue says “Easy to punish for running up for those minions for his support item and then of course you get your stacks of wraith stalkers and he will be like Swiss cheese to your eyes. You don't want to let him die, but you want him. It might actually be smart to let him stay just so that you can get an easy soul off of him every 5 seconds or so. So don't hurt him too much or he will get angry and ult and bust you to dung.”
CastratedSeal says “Ali is really aggressive after level two in lane. Harass him level one with W and keep autoing the wave to hit level two first. Start Relic Shield. Consider getting a Crucible after your Athene's.”
ANC Bence says “You can cancel his Q+W combo with your Q if you time it right. If you mastered this move Alistar is out of the game and he will become useless. In my opinion this is the most ideal match up for an experienced Janna player.”
Prof Harambe says “Any engage support is really easy for Shaco since your boxes provide a lot of defensive utility. Its quite laughable sometimes how much of a counter he is to some of the best supports in the game. In Alistar's case, he wants to all in early. If you let him push to your tower he can't knock your adc into tower while you either zone him or poke him with e. Alistar players tend to be more bright than Leona players, so they are more likely to play around your boxes - however he can't clear them and he enjoys sitting in bushes to hexflash so you hard deny his engage.”
YourCut says “Conqueror all the way. Very rough matchup until 6, cut losses and outscale. Post 6 because he's invincible you can freely stack Conqueror on him, he just heals you. Focus his ADC, try to get him caught up in your AoEs.”
Borusky says “Dessa vez, VOCÊ é a egirl que domina, ele não pode startar no adc porque você aperta uma skill (que é o W) e cancela o engage deles, fora que se você quiser descer a porrada nele, você pode.”
RedNBlue says “Alistar can sometimes be a problem. If Alistar can get his E stun off on you then that can be troublesome. The way I would think he would be able to get it off on you is if you hook him and he activates it.”
DaejiBulgogi says “Usually into Alistar, you will want the enemy to engage first.
Since Alistar's early cooldowns are lengthy and has no escape without flash, letting them engage first allows you to peel back and re-engage.
Looking for angles and creating pressure when his abilities are on cooldown will help maintain lane priority.
Be aware when he is level 6 as his ultimate counters Thresh's kit.”
Flazeping says “Check the guide for the threat
It knocks you away and cancel your w
why cancel w is important is because your w is cancel your passive is also used and your e is not buff e and hard to escape and leading you to use flash causing a bad trade”
Akraziel says “THREAT TYPE: Crowd Control Tank
STRENGTH: High defense, & target position displacement.
WEAKNESS: Low mobility, & no long range ability.
LANE TACTICS: Pushes target towards a dangerous position.
COUNTER TACTICS: Retreat from his engage then punish him when he backs out.
RECOMMENDED APPROACH: Aggressive
fm Mac says “Ali can just on you and your adc from a good range so you have to stay on your adc until he blows your combo, if you do this it should be fine as if the lane is even you adc should be on about half health and with passive shield and e you can walk away and keep laning, but for some reason I always get caught by Ali which always leads to my death.”
just_juniper says “Minions and plant's don't provide any safety against his WQ, and his R makes him way too tanky for your damage output to deal with. Take Comet and play safe. Also, warn your team of his roams!”
Guoblide says “Alistar is an easy matchup for experienced players but is more skill-based the newer you are on Sett. Alistar is a tanky frontliner with a lot of CC, kind of like Sett, but Sett hard wins every 2v2 or 1v1 skirmish due to his increased damage and sustain from Haymaker. Since Alistar can easily just Headbutt you away when you engage try to bait out Alistar]s long cooldowns and then engage on him with Flash or Hextech Flashtraption to catch him and his ADC off guard. Keep in mind that Unbreakable Will can cancel The Show Stopper when timed correctly so always try to focus on The Show Stopper-ing the ADC and not him. Also, your Facebreaker can shut down Alistar's Pulverize + Headbutt combo so don't be too afraid when he engages on you. Be careful when pushing into the enemy tower because Alistar can Flash + Headbutt you into his tower to deal a lot of damage.”
LordZaneLP says “you can counter his engage in teamfights with your ult or solari. But you cant rly stun him when he engages you because of his cc or you cast it earlier in his dash animation, but this is rly hard and mostly a skill matchup.”
Jum3h says “Alistar is very tanky and can use the gap close as an engage for himself. If you hook him he will usually just attack your teammate or push you to his team since you will be right next to him which is perfect for his Q.”
Jovy says “He's a relatively weak support at the moment and the only real thing you need to look out for is his Pulverize + Headbutt combo with which he may knock you under a turret. Other than that it's more of a stalemate than anything else, he can't really poke you or kill you, and he can't do anything to your AD if you use your E during trades.”
Jovy says “Alistar isn't very tough to deal with because he's a melee support who you can poke down during early levels. He's very tanky and can engage well, but luckily Janna's kit can counter his engages and you can usually walk away free from his attempts.”
moon827 says “Alistar is extremely tanky, so you can't really do anything to him damage wise, unless you run ignite for the true damage in combination with a q chord, which will do some damage. His kit has a lot of CC, which is something that you need to be careful of in the mid - late game, or otherwise, he can easily catch you out even if you're barely out of position.”
KajiKumihoAkukei says “Alistar is kind of a skill match-up. He has a lot of all-in engage potential, but you can deny a lot of that if you can time the use of your flay perfectly.
In this match-up you should stay close to your AD carry and save your flay for when Alistar comes to you with his headbut. This way you can deny his engage completely.
If he does manage to get on top of your AD carry immediately throw your lantern to get him to safety before Alistar can chain cc him to death.”
Taric Support says “This matchup is almost a skill-matchup even though i think Alistar has the advantage. When playing against Alistar it is important to stay near your ADC and be ready to counter engage. Play defensive and punish if they overextend, but don't play aggressive. Alistar can easily knock-up you and push you into a bad spot with his W. ”
Vahlok says “He can put you undertower if you need to take some tower plates, or even if you are trying to hook his adc. He out-tanks you and can escape from your hook using his R. He can just walk in front of his adc, making your hook useless because he can tank whatever he wants. Just try to penalize him poking with aa or your E everytime he tries to farm.”
Spection says “COMMON. Very very scary as soon as he itemizes a little bit, but until then he really isn't that much tanker than you are. Go mercilessly hard on this guy the second you hit 3 and you'll probably score a kill. Watch out for his headbutt and pulverize combo, it will leave you wide open for a lot of time. Mercury treads are powerful against this CC heavy champion.”
ShroudedBRH says “Hes disgusting to deal with due to being able to close the gap and lock you down with no counter play outside of flash. Respect his all in when he walks up and try to safely poke him down to deter.”
Wicked Cherry says “He can heal, although it's not as much as you can, but what's made me put him into the major threat category is his huge CC potential. It's super annoying and if he manages to pick you up you're pretty much dead before you can even hit that Flash button. Play safely and try to ward bushes in lane and around the close river. Try to assume when he'll try to all in on you and have your E Silence ready.”
ShanksMeister says “DO NOT PUSH WAVE! Farm on your side of the lane, trading when you can. Same as Leona, just poke him with Q to proc your manaflow. When you hit 6 you can all-in the enemy adc with your ult. ”
Vexno says “Very tanky so you can't do a lot of poke damage to him unless you use ignite. He has a lot of CC which is something very scary especially for Sona as he can catch you out if you position badly.”
Krynomi says “Good engage, bad news. Every single one of Alistar's abilities will put your W on cooldown. Distance advised. Very hard to play into this matchup. I would go with Arcane Comet so that your Q poke is better, as auto attacking is very dangerous.”
brandbrandbrandbrandbrand says “Bully the cow, sit in CLEARED bushes (bring a sweeper or control ward) and then e q w as he comes to lane or w q e if he's near his adc. You can do upwards of 60-80% of his hp in 1 combo depending on his build.”
Hoshikoo746 says “Ok.
Alistar is not a high threat, depend of who plays with him (low range adc/high range adc).
It would be easier if he is paired with a "low range adc" (it would be harder to follow up for his adc)”
Illumination says “Alistar can't touch you in lane. The danger from him comes at Lv. 6. Once he hits Lv. 6, a good Alistar will attempt to coordinate a tower dive via his ult. Be ready for it and relay this information to your team.”
snukumz says “Not much he can do if he can't get in range to engage.
Build up stacks of your passive, but do so carefully.
Be mindful of his flash engage, as it is very powerful and can easily get you killed.
If he engages you can drop your stun to cancel out his engage, or to zone off the enemy ADC.”
sorakabro says “Alistar can be pretty hard if you don´t manage to poke him down before lvl 2-3 so he can´t go in on you.
After first base lvl 5-6 take care and just stay behind your adc and try heal him up if they engage.”
thesophieset says “Not a fun lane. He is tanky and brings disgusting amounts of CC to the table with which he can easily keep you locked down while you get chunked by their ADC. If he focusses your ADC, place a silence underneath him in the hopes that you interrupt his W-Q combo. Generally avoid picking Soraka into him if you can and go for an easier counter like Janna.”
Guffel says “Melee supports are quite easy to play against. If they engage on you stun them with E and go all in on their Adc. As long as you hit the Adc you can heal your Adc with Q. If the enemy Adc kites or runs away turn on the support.”
snukumz says “Alistar is tanky and has heals to sustain your poke, but there's really not much he can do as long as you don't let him engage onto you. Just keep your distance and freely poke him and his ADC.”
Karashimi says “hes not a very bad match up but all you got to do is not be too aggressive towards him since he could just knock you up and the enemy adc would get free hits on you which is a big mistake ”
Sq_09 says “Very solid support. He outheals your mediocre poke and can engage onto you. You can however block most of the engage damage with your E and block vision with bushes. Engaging onto him is fairly hard tho. ”
rquoe says “Not the strongest of engagers, but given how squishy you are you should still be careful when playing against him, especially if the enemy ADC can follow up. Harass him only once his abilities are on cooldown.”
Abusable Yuumi says “He'll combo you if you go in to proc Bop n' Block - Stay out of range of him and avoid trying that if you can. If he gets in range, you probably die. If you don't let him, he's useless.
Unkillable typically past lv6.”
TheGreatHazam says “if I were to engage without my ult early game . He's able to get a full combo and push me into turret if your good enough. He can just stop my engage completely by using W and push me away as well. His ult as well can get rid of the charm and cc and then use his combo to destroy me so be careful when you first pick!!.”
Cat Elf says “His CC is really annoying and makes it hard for Yuumi to proc passive without dying. In fights take not of his AOE CC before going out to proc passive. The good thing is that he can't really do a lot of damage so if you can avoid getting hit by his CC it is not that hard to keep your ADC alive or kill him.
Crucible is good here or Redemption. ”
tinietinytechz says “Heavily try poke at lvl 1, cause alistar doesn't do much, but be careful of his lvl 2 all-in with ignite. His sustain from his passive and relic is crazy high. Also he takes no damage from aftershock and his ulti so. if he lands a W-Q combo, you wont win trades to just try poke the adc when he is out of range.”
unrealPR0D16Y says “He jumps in on you and headbutts you into the top lane, ultimately leaving your poor helpless ADC without their very useful and, frankly, the best support in the game. Also pretty tanky, so be mindful of that. Also no one plays him.”
PrettyPinkPutin says “Most notable thing here is that after your E stun ends, he will most likely use his Q knockup so you may dodge that if you please? Your true damage Q nullifies his R and you should give him that in a teamfight if you can't kill a squishy right now.”
AlexZzZz says “If you or your adc get in range. YOU ARE DEAD. It's really hard to stop this cow.He is extremely tanky. His passive adds up a lot of sustain in lane that basically counters your poke and it's impossible to catch him with your Q when he uses W.And even if you do catch him he can just use R and keep locking down one of you.Only thing you can do is stay back and watch out in case he flashes/hexflashes.”
PayyBack says “Alistar is basically a better Rakan because of Alistar's easy W + Q. However, Rakan has more flexibility and mobility compared to him. Even if you get caught by his combo, you can still escape by using your E to your ally. Use even your W to escape if you have to.
If Alistar uses his combo on your ADC, use your combo to disengage and protect the carry, then punish. Keep your ADC alive.
Napiste says “This is Pykes hardest matchup. Alistars strength over Pyke is his quick engage on the ADC, while Pykes reactive CC is relatively slow. Vs Alistar you never want to stack near your carry, which is normally your best location for quick peel. Alistar combo will CC you both and you will potentially both die if you stand close. Position away from Alistar try to bait his combos on yourself when his AD is out of range for follow up, to provide a safe laning experience for your carry. You CAN look for trades on Alistar, as long as you are not pulling him into combo range of your carry with enemy carry in range to follow up on your carry.”
DarkGabumon says “Not as bad as Leona, however be careful of how good he can cheese with hex flash. It may be hard to poke as he always wants to go all in, so take points into W. Try to abuse your range lvl 1, to avoid being put in a bad spot.”
Curmudgeon says “Alistar is more annoying than anything for Sett. He can just headbutt you away and be done with you, essentially rendering you useless. He can't do much in the danger department, though. If you do get in a fight with Ali and an ADC in bot lane, focus the ADC since Alistar has an ultimate that can make him a mega tank. ”
zackarian says “While it is possible to outplay Alistar by canceling his abilities with your own it is extremely difficult. Plus with the frequency he will be attacking he can be very hard to deal with.”
Hanjaro says “Alistar is pretty scary if you get close, he can combo you into enemy towers. But he can also potentially knock you back into his allies.. a free engage! Keep poking him down as much as you can. He can cleanse CC with his ult, so be careful.”
GoBucket says “Mess with the bull....and you'll probably be fine. You outdamage him so if he engages on your ADC, engage back on his. Most likely you will win the trade, especially since you can E out after your full rotation, but he cannot. If he engages on you...then he is dumb because you are way too tanky to one-shot (at least you should be), and once you've landed after being airborne you will win the fight. The only thing is...he scales pretty well so take advantage of your favourable lane and snowball as much as possible. Don't engage onto him...obviously.”
Beeee says “Alistar is (at least for me) one of the most difficult matchups for Lux. His tankiness and cc make it difficult to poke effectively without fear of being yote into the enemy tower. This is definitely a lane I recommend playing passively against.”
MeatFeast says “This is purely a skill match up in my opinion. In the current meta, I believe Leo has a slight edge, however a high skilled Ali will beat an average Leo every day of the week. Ali has enough damage to solo kill an ADC so try to peel for them whenever he makes a play. Q is your friend here as you can lock him down and stop his (E) trample stun from hitting your ADC. Alistar is the best champ at turning your own aggressive play against you. Be mindful of this and wait until his spells are on cool down before going in on the ADC. ”
Zefirez says “Recommended rune set: Conqueror.
Cow is great a peeling and engaging. The trick here however is that he can only do one at a time. If he peels you off, he doesn't have tools to engage unless he flashes for it. If he engages and you both survive this - enemy botlane is screwed, because he has nothing left and is now officially just a walking punchbag.
Cow suffers from very nasty and long cooldowns. Once he blows his load, you want to chase and kill. Still with potential damage you two may eat from his engage you'll need sustain to turn the tables, not just damage. That's why your adc should build lifesteal and you should equip conqueror rune.”
Vexno says “Very tanky so you can't do a lot of poke damage to him unless you use ignite. He has a lot of CC which is something very scary especially for Sona as he can catch you out if you position badly.”
suppdiff says “Incredibly easy lane. Abuse his level one hard, do not let them even get to the minion wave. All in them level two, and abuse his long cool down timers. Be wary of his level six tower dive potential; spam ping your jungler to come. Be sure to match his roams.”
ThebestGP says “Laning phase if pretty linear. He will try to engage with W Q which you can easily flay against. You need to react when THEY W not before because they can bait it out and engage with no worries.”
Zefirez says “Cow has nasty engage, peel and good sustain for his lane partner, making him a very troublesome support to deal with.
Losing the poking battle is no issue, as we're really poking for manaflow stacks, not real damage, but getting engaged on or peeled off in split second with headbutt is no laughting matter.
Be very wary under his turret, if you try to go ham on adc he may q you, walk behind you and headbutt you into his tower.
That being said cow has atrocious cooldowns himself. Once he blows his load and there's not kill, it's pretty free kill on enemy adc. Also if he engages, he has nothing to peel you off with if you ult adc.”
NirvanaBunny says “Since the cow is a melee champion, he can't really poke you. What he lacks in poke he makes up for in tank--so what burst damage you have is useless. This makes is annoying when trying to lock down his ADC”
aimez says “Alistar is extremely tanky, so you can't really do anything to him damage wise, unless you run ignite for the true damage in combination with a q chord, which will do some damage. His kit has a lot of CC, which is something that you need to be careful of in the mid - late game, or otherwise, he can easily catch you out even if you're barely out of position.”
Ahpulzz says “Not too bad early since you're ranged and he has literally 0 poke. What makes him annoying for you is his powerful CC that can ruin your engages. Thresh also cannot escape easily if he gets combo'd by Alistar, so you're forced to play cautiously around this guy if you're not sure of the opposing jungler's location.”
Her0mars says “a GOOD alistar will have the effects of a GOOD thresh upon you landing your E. This means you won't be landing many E's if he has good reaction times. New ali is dope as heck, be careful!”
Aethlo says “Play it safe and poke as usual, if he can't walk up he isn't much of a threat due to brand not being a hard engage support. But if you do get bashed into them he has no good and consistent CC or PEEL ability to escape.”
Chromuro says “Tank with hard CCs, possible initiation and possible disruption. Even if you play well, he can bounce you everywhere and his ADC can take advantage of this. Stay REAAAAALLY far away, you can't respond correctly to his combo, even equinox can't save you.”
CaptianMike says “Devour does % max hp magic damage and that hurts the cow! Funny thing- he can ult to get out of your devour and it looks weird. Alistar does not deal much damage at all, so don't be afraid to trade with him. ”
MoreLoliconThee2nd says “As much as he can smash you in the face with his Skill 1 and Skill 3 combo, you can tank his hits and make sure he doesn't touch your ADC. Plus, you'll heal a lot more than him.”
Vermeio says “His Q, is annoying. His W, is a better lifesaver than you have. Still, you have better tools. Your W > His W, and his E needs time. In the end you have more reliable tools than him. If you charge his adc on wall, use W (presence). to prevent the E and do the full combo, before chasing him or getting back.”
xxlisatje16 says “This guy. is a no go. his knock up will not only be annoying to your adc. but will be really hard for you. the moment your adc dies you can't do anything against this guy. please just ban him”
Appler says “As long as he doesnt knock you towards ennemy turret you are fine, dont get yourself to cocky tho
He has strong dives cuz of his sustain with R (W him a lot especially when he has his chains from W almost filled up)”
mbo575 says “Alistar's CC is problematic for Pyke, if you go close, he will set you up for a kill for his ADC or team. If you try to all-in, he can knock away either your ADC or you towards their tower for an easy 2v1. Try not to engage if his abilities are up and you don't have much support from your allies. Very tanky, so executing him will be hard.”
Sona Aria says “After level 2, you can no longer walk up beyond your casters. Alistar will flash trample you and knock you into the enemy ADC, youe life will flash before your eyes over and over again. He's difficult to poke out due to his passive, and natural tankiness. His engage combo is point and click, and avoidable only by flash or zhonyas. His ultimate cleanses your ultimate, and he can dive extremely well. Your only chance in this lane is to abuse him level one with chords and autos, and getting level two before them to create health advantages. ”
Haezard01 says “If he engages he has no way out, if he doesn't engage you can poke and busrt him, make sure to play safe still, because a good headbutt-pulverize can change the laning phase. Still in the late game you outscale because of the damage output and tankiness you bring with your passive.”
Saethwyr says “The Nice thing about melee engage supports is that while taric has an okay engage, he excels at counter-engaging into an all in, especially if they focus the carry over him. Even better, alistar's cc mainly relys on him sticking on one target, so you force him to either get you or the carry out of the picture, and in early fights taric will almost always win a 1v1 against a carry while alistar will not.”
Better Call Phil says “Hard engage. He can lock you down and rend you absolutely useless.
With some practice, you can dodge his W+Q combo with a quick E away from him. Done correctly, he will get stunned and you can pull him back into your team/turret as he has no abilities.
MasutaKokoBot says “Alistar is not much of a threat to you, just stay back and away from his dive range and you will be fine. Rely on your ADC to poke the enemy while you just heal them up from incoming trades.”
Hanjaro says “This is Pykes hardest matchup. Alistars strength over Pyke is his quick engage on his carries while Pykes reactive CC is relatively slow. Vs Alistar you never want to stack near your carry which is normally your best location for quick peel. Alistar combo will CC you both and you will potentially both die if you stand close. Position away from Alistar try to bait his combos on yourself when his AD is out of range for followup to provide a safe laning experience for your carry. You CAN look for trades on Alistar as long as you are not pulling him into combo range of your carry with enemy carry in range to follow up on your carry.”
Drlazerbeam says “This soon to be beef ball is a free lane phase for Nami. A decent Nami player should only be caught out by Ali if Ali gets help from jungle or if he flashes in. If Alistar does not get or recive that, Nami should have a easy time controlling this cow. ”
Drlazerbeam says “Ali does not far well against poke supports. The only way he wins this match up is if he all ins you. If you keep him weak by poking him down, like you should, this is a fairly easy match up.”
Fruxo says “Possibly quite threatening as he has a lot of CC and you are immobile. Try to stay out of his range and only go in if you are confident you can kill their ADC before they can finish you off. Stay out of his combo range.”
NirvanaBunny says “The cow isn't tough to deal with because he's a melee support who can poke during early game. He's pretty tanky and can engage, but you can easily disengage or just walk away because you're super fast.”
SawyerNelson says “You can spend abilities on Alistar pre level 6, killing him in lane is possible so long that you punish him when he is to far forward. If you engage onto him with E than Alistar has the advantage. Level 6 he can cleanse Leona's CC immediately with ULT. So spending abilities on his ADC becomes more valuable.”
SawyerNelson says “Alistar is very easy to kill early as you can poke him down with Q, he sustain sucks, and eventually all in with E when he moves to far forward.
If he combos use and you buffer W fast enough they can't hit you.
If he combos you post 6 you can just buffer ULT and flash on top of the enemy ADC”
NirvanaBunny says “This cow is tanky, so you can't do much to him damage wise (unless you run ignite instead of exhaust). The Cow has a lot of CC in his kit so be careful, he can catch you out easily otherwise.”
Meresjev says “ It's very simple, Alistar is a Full CC champ, You just have to predict when is he going to jump and shield your allies. You can also focus adc when alistar fails all his CC, because he will be on Cooldown. ”
FwuffyMilk says “Try to poke him or his adc pre level 2, this will make his level 2 or 3 engage potentially dangerous for him.
Good Alistars will try to flash behind you then knock you towards their tower care for this. If you are destroying him in lane prepare for him to roam around the map a lot. ”
FwuffyMilk says “This match up comes down to how good the Alistar is and how good you can use your Whimsy to stop his engage. If you use Whimsy as he's flying towards your ADC it will just knock your ADC away effectively messing up Alistar's engage.”
semisomniac says “You win by poke in the early levels, but once he hits level 3 you have to be careful not to get engaged on, because his all-in is almost unparalleled. His base health got a nerf in 8.21, so you can poke him even harder early now.”
MichelGamingMK says “You can poke Alistar well in lane but be aware of his W-Q combo. It will disable you for a fairly long time which leaves you vulnerable to aggressive engages from the enemy
His R also makes him very tanky (reduces all damage taken by 75%) so don't try to burn all your damage on him since he can still make a last stand with his ultimate even when he is low.”
TruMediaMix1 says “Black Shield easily counters his crowd control, you can easily harass him in the early game, and you can nail him to the ground with your Soul Shackles if he gets too close to you and your team.”
Guychk says “He has a lot of CC, and his ult is not something to take lightly of. If you think he is about to go on your ADC throw out a Q to where you ADC is, that way when he Headbutts your ADC you can catch him midair, and he will be CC'd. You can also Flay him to cancel his Headbutt. Make sure you peel for your ADC and you can win this matchup. ”
Jeroen R8 says “If Alistar goes in for his E,Q combo, you can flay him out of it. Timing this right requires some practice though. Alistar has a lot of lane pressure simply by being in range of his Headbutt ability.”
ff20orfeeding says “Depends on skill and pairing. Unless he goes in early and gets way ahead they will lose. Superior poke/range and ability to shield can give you the advantage. Poke and distance is the key.”
KhaliDino says “This guy is an OOF for bard. One of few matchups where u take guardian and match him as best as you can. Guardian will help save you from his all ins, and reduce his burst when he combos. His W range is greater than your auto attack range so you can only hit this guy with Q's , and if you ever plan on autoing him you have to consider what would happen if he combos you since HE WILL BE ABLE TO COMBO YOU. He will threaten you with an all-in in lane, and have the same roaming potential as you out of lane. The one advantage you have is that your Ult can disturb his engage. If an alistar finds a good engage you need to find a good ultimate to prevent followup. ”
O Takes Square says “Ok so of all the Supports you can face, he is one of the worse ones. He will poop on you once he gets his combo and pulling him with your passive is like MEH not a great idea since it lets him gap close..He can be really difficult in lane for sure especially if they get a kill”
I love Lun Lun says “Alistar is an undying cow which we cannot milk :(
Just kidding. He is very dangerous since he can exploit the fact that Soraka needs to get close to someone in order to heal but we can outsmart him.Our E is a valueable ally that we should only use in order to disengage him.Our E is the literal root of roots on him.Our silence will not let him complete his E with our root and that's how you fight an Alistar. Our Q is a slow which can be used against him as well, however if you think he has W and Q don't let both you and your ADC die.Let him combo and afterwards heal.”
Wasbeer says “Alistar is hard to counter, because he will CC chain you and early this will result in allot of deads.
Tip: Play carefull early game and try to keep you'r ADC healty. Past lvl 6 there is allot less kill potential and you should be fine.”
TSMSky says “You can harass him easily when his combo is down, but his auto-heal is a nuisance. If the combo lands on you or your ADC because you didn't interrupt with Q, you probably lose that trade. You can take Frost or Coin here.”
heyitsRainex says “He's dangerous in the early game due to his all-in. But if he decides to engage on you, you can try to go for the ADC whilst having E up.
He's a good engager, but not a good peeler.”
Zefirez says “On one hand cow is a very diffucult opponent. His all in is lightning fast and it's very hard to stop it in mid-dash with majestic roar. He also provides his adc with big sustain via passive.
That being said, his cooldowns are brutal, mobility pitiful and autos weak. If they don't get a kill on your adc pronto, they're in deep shit.
I recommend going ham on adc, unless you need to peel ali off to save yours from gettin trampled. Jungler ganks are also nice, as ali sucks at running away, and once he blows his load on engage, he's just a big hp punchbag that can't do jack.”
Qwerty19 says “He's just so tanky, forget about killing him post 6. When he engages jump on his adc, this will make it so our adc isn't taking damage from both ali and their adc and we can usually outdamage and ali trade.”
SpicySkelleton says “Only annoying fact is that he can tank up very fast, and he can toss you or tour adc in the firing line of his. Other than that just focus on his adc and push him back so he can't save them.”
Lonxu says “If the lane is even and you get hit by the combo and E, it's gonna be a rough day.
I just want to push the lane and hurt Ali or the ADC so much that the all-in is not an great option for them or results in a kill-trade at least.
you shouldn't really cast your spells on the Ali after he finishes the combo as he has the extra resist from aftershock. So ideally kill the carry instead.
SawyerNelson says “Alistar can break open games early in the laning phase if you give him opportunities to combo you or your ADC. Keep distance and poke him to below 40% HP so it will be dangerous for him to all in. ”
nicko9090 says “Alistar in good hand can be a pain in the ass to deal with as he can engage on your carry if you engage on their and basically make it 1v2 with his headbutt. If you try to engage on him , he can stun you and headbutt you to his carry or disengage you entirely by pushing you back. Bad Alistar however make this matchup a minor one as they either engage without follow or miss their W+Q combo. If you spot that they miss their combo, engage. It's the time to shine.”
