While he is a clone, he was more refined and more fitting in the current modern meta. Basically, watch out for his (6) all in, which sends him directly towards the indicated position. He's strong, agile, but so long as you're not disrespecting the fact that he is a melee, you should be fine as unlike the modern Aatrox, his version of him was fair inferior when it comes to the level 1-5. - Respect his Q2 knockup as it can prevent you from using R.
- Dodge his W with your E or sidestep.
- Stay out of melee range. Keep kiting/dodging with your passive.
- Don't let him engage on you first unless you're baiting him with your W.
Offense:
- Hold your W as he's much more predictable in teamfights.
- Playing with teammates who have CC make this much easier.”

I find the trick to this matchup is playing for q poke before 6 and w proc poke after 6. Be patient with Zaahen when looking to make an ult play on him, his ult makes him unstoppable.
- Can play for prio on 1st wave
- Be weary of Zaahen E start, don't over commit into poke level 1
- Play safe after first crash onto his tower
- After level 3, trades will either consist of your Q poke, or Zaahen initiating with E and/or W
- If Zaahen E or W is down and you have E up, you can fish for trades
- In mega, be mindful his ult makes him unstoppable
- Don't W to start trade if he has ult
- Play mind games with ult as needed
- Chain CC properly for good burst
- Late game is super easy, just don't try to fight him in melee”

forlid says “Zaahen has no kill pressure early, and can only take you out if you walk into his auto attacks. Space him with your Q and dodge his W if possible. Zaahen has a quick gap closer with his E -> Q2, so be wary of that.
Zaahen is one of the best duelists later in the game and has terrifying teamfight presence. He scales well and kills you with ease after core items. Try to play with your carries and peel them as much as you can and you'll win.”

Once 6, just dodge his pull and you can start to bully him.

Zaahen can do both short and extended trades, making it tricky to go in. However, he cannot really out damage you. He will often look for a quick trade with W + Q2, making you unable to trade back. However, his W is very easily dodgeable and his Q2 is quite predictable.
Whenever you see Zaahen use his Q, walk back a bit. Once he used his Q2, it will be your window to go in.
After 6, try to save your ult for when he ults. This way, you can catch up to him, since his ult has quite a bit of range.”

He can close the distance very quickly with his E, and the pull from his W is somewhat buggy and seems to always hit. Combine that with the immense amount of damage the champion possesses just from being released, and you simply won't be able to play the laning phase.”
xumi_k says “You win early with stacked passive and poking him with minion Q + AA but he’s a lot better in teamfights/long trades in duels and outscales you later, he killed me with an item behind in late/mid game :3 It’s hard for him to stack his passive early, so try to punish it. Anti-heal is ok vs him. Need more experience cuz the champ is barely out.”

He can stick to you with his dash and pull and his healing makes it tough to win trades/all ins late in lane phase.
Ideally you have ignite and wait for your Jungler before you all in post 6.”
