Tips Against Zaahen in Top Lane Tips Provided by MOBAFire Guide Authors
rippytide09 says “Farm in lane. Don't let him stack up his passive since he will get his revive and tons of damage. Play safe and outscale him.”
Geish123 says “Skil matchup 50/50 ( W lvl 1 start) and bait his dash. space his 2nd Q or W before he uses it. hyper agressive early with pta sb bp”
claubertonious says “super easy lane for you, if he ever dashes onto you then you can w him to space and then land your q, your poke is super hard to play against for him in lane and he should never kill you unless you waste w or e really poorly. unfortunately he can still become a teamfight demon after a bit of scaling but youll never lose to him.”
Wafflerush says “Zaahen is, surprisingly, not too scary to deal with if you understand his abilities. He is always going to want to all-in, so I recommend Phase Rush for this matchup as to not get stuck in his forced advances. With enough short winning trades, you can bully him to the point he will stay under turret and utilize his Q for healing. Your Q can be used on a wall, when timed right, to disengage Zaahen's W pull.”
TheMild1 says “His early game is very weak and does not do much. He gets a ton of healing from abilities. Going bramble is very strong. He will out-scale you very hard.”
Dragonlord1022 says “Fleet
Bone Plating and Unflinching
D Blade → Plated Steelcaps/Swifties → Tri Force
You have prio on 1st shove. Then
I find the trick to this matchup is playing for q poke before 6 and w proc poke after 6. Be patient with Zaahen when looking to make an ult play on him, his ult makes him unstoppable.
- Can play for prio on 1st wave
- Be weary of Zaahen E start, don't over commit into poke level 1
- Play safe after first crash onto his tower
- After level 3, trades will either consist of your Q poke, or Zaahen initiating with E and/or W
- If Zaahen E or W is down and you have E up, you can fish for trades
- In mega, be mindful his ult makes him unstoppable
- Don't W to start trade if he has ult
- Play mind games with ult as needed
- Chain CC properly for good burst
- Late game is super easy, just don't try to fight him in melee”
Jellybombs says “Zaahen is like Mordekaiser, he gets stronger as the fight goes on, try not to get hit by his E's outter circle during lane and make sure you make short trades instead of long fights”
forlid says “Zaahen has no kill pressure early, and can only take you out if you walk into his auto attacks. Space him with your Q and dodge his W if possible. Zaahen has a quick gap closer with his E -> Q2, so be wary of that.
Zaahen is one of the best duelists later in the game and has terrifying teamfight presence. He scales well and kills you with ease after core items. Try to play with your carries and peel them as much as you can and you'll win.”
Saneryus says “Pre-6, gameplan will depend on what rune he takes.
HoB? You will lose all trades. Just farm/soak xp till 6.
Conquerer? E start. You can obtain priority level 1 and shove cannon wave.
Dodge his W (pull) and you'll win. Careful for his E (dash) as he'll mask his 2nd Q (knock up) with his Dash) and catch you off to follow up with his pull.
Once 6, just dodge his pull and you can start to bully him.
DBlade Start. IF enemy jungler is ad and you think you'll get dove, cloth armor + refill start
Flash/TP
Standard PTA, MS + HP scaling.
Q Max if new. E max once more comfortable.
”
PoEs_tk says “really hard matchup , be always careful of his second Q and never let him stack passive , your biggest opportunity to kill is level 6 with your red pot , ”
zwartebliksem says “Flash + Ignite
Zaahen can do both short and extended trades, making it tricky to go in. However, he cannot really out damage you. He will often look for a quick trade with W + Q2, making you unable to trade back. However, his W is very easily dodgeable and his Q2 is quite predictable.
Whenever you see Zaahen use his Q, walk back a bit. Once he used his Q2, it will be your window to go in.
After 6, try to save your ult for when he ults. This way, you can catch up to him, since his ult has quite a bit of range.”
TemoOnlyIfOK says “Frequency: 2/10
Annoyance: 5/10
Difficulty: 2/10
Summs:
FLASH TP
Runes:
DAMAGE
O2:
RUSH
Strat:
As Teemo is his best counter, you will see Teemo banned more often than the Match-Up itself. (Anyone with range works, I go back to old reliable Malphite)
But if you face him as Teemo rush O2 with NASHOR.
A base-level of difficulty and annoyance is given, as he is still a 2025 creation, even if the Match-Up is free.”
Inting Briar says “Wait for that knockup to go to a minion. Remember he has a dash and can hook you. So think very intensely before every trade-in.”
BodeXYZ says “As a ranged champion in the top lane, we're almost always a nightmare for fighters, but with Zaahen it's different. He can close the distance very quickly with his E, and the pull from his W is somewhat buggy and seems to always hit. Combine that with the immense amount of damage the champion possesses just from being released, and you simply won't be able to play the laning phase.”
xumi_k says “You win early with stacked passive and poking him with minion Q + AA but he’s a lot better in teamfights/long trades in duels and outscales you later, he killed me with an item behind in late/mid game :3 It’s hard for him to stack his passive early, so try to punish it. Anti-heal is ok vs him. Need more experience cuz the champ is barely out.”
Bourne212 says “You can trade early, but after first Item it would be best to shove and roam.
He can stick to you with his dash and pull and his healing makes it tough to win trades/all ins late in lane phase.
Ideally you have ignite and wait for your Jungler before you all in post 6.”
